New Merger as Sentara purchases Halifax Regional Health System

Halifax Regional Health System and Sentara Healthcare, parent company of Optima Health, have signed a letter of intent to merge.

Halifax Regional Health System recognized the strategic value of joining an organization with a not-for-profit mission, and commitment to clinical excellence and patient satisfaction. The certainty of healthcare reform and the struggling economy continue to foster a climate of great change. Many healthcare organizations are considering how they will continue providing exceptional healthcare in light of these challenges. Sentara Healthcare has been planning for the changes in the industry for years and is well positioned to share insight with other partners.

Opportunities like these allow Sentara Healthcare the benefit of serving broader communities, sharing best practices that will allow us to achieve even higher standards of quality and patient safety, and achieving growth imperatives essential to our long-term success in a climate of consolidation. It also allows Sentara Healthcare the opportunity to gain insight and competencies from a truly rural health system.

There is much to be done between the signing of a letter of intent and the conclusion of the affiliation. However, I wanted you to know this process has begun and, as an Optima Health broker, I hope you will soon recognize the value that Sentara Healthcare can bring to the community.
